Church of the Good Shepherd Wedding – Lake Tekapo

Stunning Lake Tekapo Church of the Good Shepherd Weddings is one of New Zealand historical churches.

New Zealand Dream Weddings has been helping couples get married in this beautiful church for over 12 years.

The Church of the Good Shepherd is situated at Lake Tekapo a small township in the magnificent Mackenzie Country and is approx 3 hours drive from Christchurch.

The Church was built 1934 as a memorial to the early settlers and shepherds. A captivating view through the wide altar window to primeval mountains enveloping Lake Tekapo whilst the beautiful altar is made from a large block of white stone with inlaid carvings of mountain buttercups, ferns, hebes, lizard and native trees and birds. The land surrounding this delightful church has been left untouched, giving the impression of tranquility.

The Church of the Good Shepherd is a favorite with many couples from all over the world.

Please note that the Church is only available for weddings Tuesday to Friday at 10.30am or 2pm. Due to the history and location of ‘The Church of the Good Shepherd’ the popularity of the church is great and there are coach tours stopping throughout the day. This is why we recommend the times above. During your ceremony tours groups will not have access to the church so please rest assured that you will have your wedding ceremony in privacy.

Ceremonies can only be conducted by a licensed New Zealand Clergy. Civil marriages and blessings are not allowed. The Church of the Good Shepherd is an interdenominational Church.

We recommended that you travel to Lake Tekapo the day before your wedding as you will need to meet with the Minister just to go through your wedding ceremony. For accommodation New Zealand Dream Weddings can assist with a variety of places to stay. Travel recommendations would be rental car.
