THE UNIQUE NEW ZEALAND MOARI WEDDING

REHUA MARAE – Te Whatumanawa Maoritanga O Rehua.

The Marae of all tribal affiliations in New Zealand. The Marae itself features the most spectacularly carved Whare, (meeting house) with its own waka (canoe) resting in front of the meeting house.

The Marae is a sacred open meeting area, generally situated in front of the "whare runanga", communal meeting house, is the area of greatest mana, the place of greatest spirituality; the place that heightens people's dignity, and the place in which Maori customs are given ultimate expression. This is where all wedding ceremonies will take place unless weather is not kind on the day, and then the ceremony will be transferred inside the Meeting House.

Rehua was built in a style which has evolved over hundreds of years of habitation and development of Maori people in Otautahi (Christchurch). Keeping in style the traditional designs and carvings with woven panels representing the ancestors.

Rehua Marae is not a commercial Marae. This Marae does have protocols that must be respected. Remember in respecting the protocols you are respecting ancestors.

Part of the procedure of your wedding will be …. Powhiri (welcome) and Karanga (calling on)

There is nowhere else in the world that you will experience such a personal and spiritual wedding. If you are both wishing for a wedding that is not only unique but also spiritual and with deep meaning then our 'Unique NZ Maori Wedding' is the right choice.
